Accounting and Administration Officer
SORAC is a non‑profit organization that was recently established to contribute in a meaningful way to environmental protection. Its vision is to further develop its expertise in order to become a leader in Canada as a recovery and valorization organization for all types of commercial and institutional equipment. The mandate of our organization is to establish the very first recovery program in Quebec and Canada for commercial and institutional refrigeration and freezing equipment. As a strategic player within our team, you will therefore help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by diverting this equipment from landfill sites and by setting industry benchmarks in this field.
For our growing team, we are currently seeking a Accounting and Administration Officer. Under the supervision of SORAC’s Executive Director, you will be actively involved in bookkeeping and the smooth execution of daily accounting operations. In addition, by supporting various members of the team, you will be responsible for a range of administrative tasks and files.

- Salary range: $25 to $32 per hour
What do you need to succeed in this role?
- Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) in Accounting or equivalent education
- Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant and meaningful experience
- Good command of the QuickBooks accounting software.
- Excellent command of the Office suite, particularly Excel.
- Familiar with the use of a CRM (HubSpot an asset)
- Excellent command of French and good command of English
- Sense of organization, rigor, and attention to detail
- Demonstrate versatility, autonomy, and the ability to work as part of a team
- Excellent customer service approach
- Experience working with a non‑profit organization is an asset
- Interest in sustainable development practices and environmental protection
Here’s what your day‑to‑day work will look like:
Accounting component (approximately two and a half days per week)
- Ensure the monthly closing of accounting journals and general ledger accounts
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations
- Ensure follow‑up of customer and supplier accounts
- Ensure the processing of invoices and payments
- Carry out tax filings (GST, QST)
- Prepare and record journal entries
- Participate in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements
- Ensure the collection of supporting documentation
- Ensure the updating of accounting records
- Payroll preparation using Employer D
- Follow‑ups on group insurance and liability platforms
Administrative component
- Answer phone calls and forward messages (low call volume)
- Manage incoming mail and the info@sorac email inbox
- Meeting planning and updating information in the CRM
- Record and prepare agendas and minutes for team meetings
- Contribute to the onboarding of new employees (management of system access, IT equipment, etc.)
- Follow up on and place orders for office or IT supplies, and maintain inventory records
- Ensure logistical organization for events or meetings (room bookings, accommodations, event registrations, meals, transportation, conferences, AGM)
- Participate in the implementation of the team’s various projects (data research, development of dashboards, summary documents, document review, newsletter).
- Participate in the drafting of various reports (annual report, project reports)
- Support management with various administrative tasks
